How did you hone your craft?

I studied with Carol Gurney, Marta Williams and Teresa Wagner. I began my practice by creating a popular forum where people would post their animals and I would read them. Before going professional, I read 4-6 animals per day, 4-5 days per week.

What tip would you give pet parents for working with animals that you've learned as a pro?

Talk to your animals as you would any other family member. Tell them when you are going out, where you're going, and when you'll be back. Furthermore, never, ever, ever, say derogatory things about them in front of them. Also, don't call yourself an 'owner.' Animals are not 'things' to be 'owned.' They are your family. You are their 'pet parent,' or their guardian.

What is one thing you want pet parents to know about you? It can be whatev-fur you'd like!

I am the author of “Pawstalking: A Course in Communicating with Animals”.
