Lance A. Ferris, LCSW - Pet Loss Grief Counselor - Chico, CA - Nationwide
Our relationships with our pets and companion animals are often deeply rewarding. Experiencing the death of a pet is often a profound experience of hardship and loss. Therefore, the feelings of grief we experience may be as intense (sometimes more) as the feelings experienced of loss of our human relationships. Grief is normal – not simple.
As a devoted pet and companion animal lover, I use personal experience as well as my education and training as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), in mental health practice, to provide coping strategies that enable clients to begin a healthy grieving process around their pets’ death.
I have had the privilege of working with individuals, families, children, seniors, and couples as they struggled with anticipatory grief over their pets’ illness, as they made tough decisions regarding their care, and later as they processed the loss.
I have also worked on behalf of animal parents after forced abandonment of a companion animal during an evacuation/natural disaster (Camp Fire 2018), addressing acute trauma.
I find that our animal companions are both unique & necessary to many of us in living a full life. I offer my expertise, empathy & compassion to those who find themselves suddenly traveling without their beloved companion. I respect and honor each person’s unique style of grieving, and offer strategies for healing, which will be individually tailored to each situation and personal style. In a supportive, collaborative and accepting environment, we focused on letting go, saying good-bye, and the rituals of remembrance.
